National Mentoring Day: Thursday 27th October 2022

October 27 is National Mentoring Day!  To mark the occasion the CWU has renewed its new mentoring exchange scheme and it is in the process of training even more senior CWU activists to offer their time as mentors.

The CWU’s renewed mentoring programme has been designed to encourage and inspire new and existing CWU representatives to advance their personal skills and knowledge and provide a forum to discuss any barriers they may be facing.

The new scheme now affords mentees access to ‘one on one’ sessions with one of our experienced CWU mentors every 6 weeks for a total of twelve months.

Individual sessions have been structured to help mentees set personal goals and access support to help them grow and thrive.

Professional experience is varied but our current cohort of mentors are a mix of senior CWU activists from national and regional industrial and non-industrial backgrounds.

Commenting on the new scheme Kate Hudson, Head of CWU Equality, Education and Development said: “In a world of constant change, it is imperative that our activists and representatives access the support and guidance that they need to develop and grow. I’m pleased we are promoting our renewed mentoring scheme on National Mentoring Day, the new scheme not only complements our existing education and training courses but it also  gives mentors and mentees the freedoms to decide where they want to focus their work and development.”.

Adam Alarakhia, CWU Mentor, said: “Mentorship can be life-changing for both the mentor and the Mentee. As an existing CWU mentor it has really made me think about my own journey as a CWU activist and my views about certain issues, such as social and economic change and the impacts it has on different groups from various Equality backgrounds. I am very grateful to the CWU that they have given me another opportunity to be a Mentor through the new exchange scheme”

Mentee applications will be advertised in the New Year. Look out for the LTB.
